Hokie Effect
Hokie Effect is a program through the Undergraduate Student Senate (USS) that annually designs and sells 2 new spirit shirts for a variety of sporting events at Virginia Tech. The Hokie Effect games encourage fans to wear a certain color to show school spirit and create a blanketed color effect.

The purchase of a Hokie Effect shirt helps current students, alumni, faculty, staff, and fans of the Virginia Tech community live out “Ut Prosim” all while supporting the school that is so deeply meaningful to all Hokies, past, present and future.
The USS relies on a portion of the funding from Hokie Effect shirt sales to execute the Hokie Effect program, host regular meetings to serve undergraduate students, hold Townhalls and support initiatives that enhance the student experience, create membership development opportunities for students involved with USS, advocate to legislators in both Richmond and D.C. on institutional and student priorities, and so much more.
The Hokie Effect team collaborates with Athletics to make this program possible and strives to support student athletes. Through this partnership, a portion of the proceeds go toward programs and initiatives within Athletics’ multi-disciplinary sports science team to support student-athlete performance, health and well-being.
This program focuses on supporting current students in need through giving a portion of the proceeds to the Student Emergency Fund. The Student Emergency Fund is used as a last resort to support currently enrolled students who, through no fault of their own, experienced a one-time financial hardship with related unexpected expenses or loss of income and the student is now facing conflict or disaster, housing or food insecurity, an inability to continue their education mid-term, or the need to travel for a personal or family emergency.
